Doing good will make you look good

First up a big warm happy tee clad welcome to our new German correspondent Markus. Markus runs a kickass T shirt blog in German called Shirt Spotting, and is going to bring the best of German speaking tshirts to OMG Tees. Over to you Markus!

A big new thing in consumer world is called “LOHAS”. Ever heard of that? This is short for “Lifestyle of Health and Sustainable Development”. The thought is: by carefully chosing the products that you buy you can make a difference. And the striking success of American Apparel clothing proves that a) there is a huge interest out there in buying “politically correct” products and b) there has to be no contradiction in fashionable and ecologically and ethically approvable products.
Now a German company called “armedangels” has set out to bring great design, ecology, ethical fashion and social products together.

The shirts at www.armed-angels.com are all made of organic Fair-Trade-cotton, so there is a strict and certified No Sweatshop-policy - and it’s eco-friendly at the same time.
The angels go even further and donate 3,33€ to social projects with every product sold. Currently the benefits go to hospital and school projects in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. More projects are to follow.

1.jpg

Now this is fine, but it wouldn’t be worth much if the shirts themselves were crappy. So let me tell you: they look absolutely great. Their logo, the angel is an example of great design - and now picture him in gold shining from a brown shirt: yummy. To assure only the best shirt designs are printed, the site shows design previews, and the customers and visitors have the opportunity to give their opinion on them as “Style Scouts”.

Still they all look great, like these:

2.jpg

Lots more pics at their Flickr here. Shirts are from 29.99€ onwards, a fair price for good clothing for a good cause.

Find them here:

Finally, if you want to bring another country into the OMG Tees family get in touch, we’d love to grow the network.

Ultimate LEGO Tee List

My interest in lego has been rekindled by the latest podbrix release - young Woz and Jobs! Very neat. Some lego tees:
Classic PodBrix
The classic Brix Tee is sold out again, but will return sometime I’m sure.

brix.jpg

ROCK
This is probably my favourite shirt on the list. The details are beautiful - just look at that hand! Joy! Rock on LEGO style. Well done Old Crappy Tee.

rock.jpg

Hairdresser
The lego store does a stack of excellent LEGO geek t-shirts, my favourite is this hair swap shirt. Swapping the hair on a LEGO dude to give him a disguise because he just murdered Barbie was always fun!

hair.jpg

Who Dun It
This decapitation tee from NoiseBot is pretty cool. A bloody and gruesome take on the headless LEGO dude theme.

decap.jpg

Zombie
And why would anyone decapitate a LEGO dude you ask? Because they turn into LEGO Zombies. The Tshirt of the 19″ scupture from Dead Zebra. Subtle stuff!

zombie.jpg

One small step
I’m pretty sure I’m missing the joke with this tee - but I kinda like it’s poor photoshopping.

step.jpg

Organised
Another Zazzle shirt, this is more organised than my legos ever got. I like the slight Beavis and Butt head quality to the drawing.

organ.jpg

Star Wars
Personall, I don’t get LEGO star wars. I played star wars with lego - I didn’t need LEGO dudes shaped like Luke and c3PO. Ho hum!

darth.jpg

Headless
Not threadless, headless. This tee from Moji approaches perfect, it is just the mullet of ROCK that keeps this off my #1 spot. Previously reviewed here.

threadless $10 sale

I just spent another couple of hundred dollars on Threadless shirts I don’t need. Yep - its $10 sale time again!

Anthill Trap - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

just arrived - insanely great tees

So my new Tshirts arrived, now who doesn’t like some schwag? I love it. I’m always slightly more pleased to be opening a bag of T-shirts when a couple of stickers, a key ring, or even an extra shirt drop out of there. So immediate points scored there by insanely great Tees - a Steve Jobs for President sticker! Yay!
schwag.jpg

I loved the designs from their website, (which shows how a shirt website should be done btw - interesting layouts, interesting designs, simple messages Oh god - I’m sounding all fanboy! Okay, back to the shirts) I ordered 2. A Bill Gates tribute and a camera geek shirt.

bill.jpg

low.jpg

Both are printed on excellent quality American Apparel shirts. The printing is top notch, I can’t think of many shirts I’ve owned with a crisper design - especially of white on black / red. A closeup:

detail.jpg

See what I mean. Crispy.

Delivery was quick, not quite insanely quick, but quick. I ordered 3 batches of Tshirts on the same evening from different shops and this was first to arrive.

Now there’s an idea for a post - a delivery race! Hmmmm.

The bottom line with any geek Tshirt, for me, is the response it gets when you first go out and about. The Bill Gates got a “New geek shirt!” within about 20 minutes of leaving the house this morning. You can’t ask for more than that. I’ll try the photog one tomorrow.

20 ASCII T-SHIRTS

Black tshirts in the workplace are just easier to get away with than colored ones. Especially if they only have some cryptic binary joke, 2600 reference, or other geek nonsense on them in plain text. ASCII shirts. Joy! Don’t expect this to be the most colorful post you’ll ever see on OMGTees btw.

ExSysOp from fractalspin. Elegant minimalist use of the character set there.

exsysop.gif

ASCII Tank from most-awesomest.com. Comes on red and blue as well as the classic black.

tank.gif

Howdy is a japanese shirts, stretching the ASCII definition a little thin, but hey, lets go with it. From jbox.

howdy.gif

Beyond ASCII, comes binary ASCII. You are Dumb from ThinkGeek geek elitism at its best.

binary.gif

ºoº has nothing to do with mice. Or animations. Or free stuff you get with burgers. At all. Honest.

mickey.gif

ASCII Helicopters litter cafepress and other sites, but ROFL from ThinkGeek is the best executed, and so the one you should buy.

rofl.gif

With ASCII comes HTML, the simplest markup is always the best. <GEEK> from ThinkGeek just confirms what everyone knew already! How do I know? You’re reading a list of ASCII Tshirts dude! Normal people just don’t do that.

geek.gif

TIE Fighter in ASCII. If you don’t think the <GEEK> tshirt is emphatic enough. Try this. KeyStrokeTshirts.

fighter.gif

“You see the arrow means ‘is greater than’ in math”. Practice that phrase if you buy this tee, you’ll need it. i > u from ThinkGeek

iu.gif

Metal. Up yer ASCII. well yes, indeed! From Crack Smoking Shirts.

metal.gif

From ASCII to HEX. Black printed in black on black in hex. Shiny. #000000 from ThinkGeek

black.gif

O’RLY from Zazzle.com. Again, many many many versions of this out there, but this seems the most elegantly executed.

orly.gif

Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night in ASCII. Who could resist buying this for an aunts Christmas, making her wear an ASCII shirt without even knowing it. At Computergear.com.

starry.gif

Emoji are Japanese emoticons. Some of them scare me. This one just looks confused. At PCR.

emoji.gif

</emo> Poor little emo kids. Don’t let them see you wearing this. They might cry. Or gain a sense of amazing power that they drove you to change your shirt. Yet more fake HTML, but it’s all ASCII really. Another from CrackSmokingShirts.

emo.gif

That HEX code. Sometimes a bit of ASCII can get you in trouble. Don’t hide it on your blog, wear it on your chest. From NerdyShirts.

hex.gif

Space Invaders. Back in the day almost all games pretty much WERE ASCII. So immersive! From NerdyShirts.

space.gif

Finally Bad Ascii, Linux, and a few others at CafePress.com (just search for ascii, there are thousands, mostly awful!) to satisfy those looking for some black on white Ascii Tee action. Don’t say we don’t look after all tastes!

white.gif

If you didn’t spot anything there and you have a kick ass bit of ASCII art in your sig, just print it yourself HERE, HERE or HERE. If you do, tell us, and we might post about it.

ponies, ponies, ponies

I’m a guy. I still want to play video games all day, eat whole bars of chocolate, shoot people with toy guns and have them jump in the air shouting ‘Auuurrrrghhhhhh’. I want to climb trees and drop things on people as they walk by. I want to give people nicknames. I want to ride a bike really fast down a lumpy hill while girls watch. I want to juggle. Well.
As I said. I’m a guy. Not all people are guys. Some are girls:

some worthy apple tshirts

Sometimes I just can’t think of a cool post title dripping with SEO goodness. There must be an unused apple pun waiting out there somewhere. Never mind, on with the shirts!

Apples don’t grow on trees you know! From Go Ape Shirts, who are maintaining the high standard - check the beernoculars on that site too!

appletree.jpg

icandy.JPG iCandy - for the iHoney in your life. There’s just one word that comes to mind looking at this design. ’slinky’.

From NaughTee Clothing.

imom.jpgiMom - hopefully if you need one of these, you can still get away with one of those. If not, never mind. Theres always Yoga!

iyum.gif Go all apple retro with the candy colors with this Yum shirt. iMacs should go all candy colored again, they’re just too sophisticated these days. Found here, but you’ll have to hunt to find one you can actually buy.

cube.gif My favourite ever Mac - the G4 cube on a tshirt. Absolute perfection, apart from the melting, the cracking, and the general inability to work reliably. It was like owning an Atari again! This is an absolutely amazingly dull yet great shirt, like wearing a newspaper ad.

iTieDye. Enough said. You have to be pretty sure you like the tieDye look to pull this off, but what a way to stand out in the computer lab!

itiedye.jpg

CHOP SHOP airfix kit of a mac. Who doesn’t wish, just a little bit, that when you order a new powerbook it came in kit form.

applekit.jpg

geometry time

These shirts from Digital Urban look kinda like someone went mad with a spirograph, colored the results in, rubbed out all the lines, and printed them on a shirt. Some of them look great, in an abstract simple geometry way. This one is particularly regular / irregular geometric balancey nice. You know what I mean!

geometric1.jpg

vintage slush puppy

Vintage Tshirts are cool. Fake vintage Tshirts are also cool. They are also cheaper, and less likely to have been worn by someone freaky. They are also more likely to look ‘vintage’ rather than ‘old’. An important distinction. The printing on these tees, Slush Puppies shown below, from Famous Forever at truffleshuffle looks excellent. Quite a varied range, with a few standouts, not cheap (about $50+postage from UK), but worth it. Probably.

slush.jpg

scan this - barcode cool

Barcodes are cool. I sometimes do wish we all had barcodes on our foreheads, it would be so easy to set up an in house monitoring system so that I could auto blog how many times I opened the fridge or went to the bathroom in a day - and compare to everyone else in the house. But sadly the surveillance society hasn’t reached those extremes yet. We can but wait.

scanthis.jpg

Oh - and the tshirt, a nice layout of a sound idea.

achievement locked - tee for your bum!

I suck at video games. I don’t have the 8 hours a day of free time to devote to them that I used to. Achievements just make this fact more obvious to everyone - I can’t even bluff my half blind grandparents, they just check my rank on Live and laugh at me. I hate the future.

By way of revenge on all those kids who keep me out of the top 100,000 on every game I ever played - a nice bumshirt, or underwear as splitreason call them.

locked.jpg

Now to be filed under ‘otherwear’ on omgtees. Find em here, buy them for the one you (want to) love!

Moji Lego

Hurrah. I love t-shirt sites that keep it simple with strong designs, and a simple proposition. Here are a few designs, get them while they last, aren’t they nice. Moji-T is the best of these I’ve stumbled upon recently. I love the simplicity, and I totally love the shirt below. I never thought about whether lego people have blood before - but of course they must, and it must be yellow. Genius.

lego.jpg

hmmm… Fugu….

Fugu is just stupid, but this shirt is beautiful.  Stupid is perhaps a little strong, according to wikipedia “The poison, a sodium channel blocker, paralyzes the muscles while the victim stays fully conscious, and eventually dies from asphyxiation.” Nice way to go.

fugu.jpg

I’m loving the idea that you look like some scary guy when someone reads the back of your shirt on the tube, but when you turn around you’ve just got a cute puffer fish there - not some decapitated zombie scull wit guns pointing out of its eyes. Find the tee here. The site, gmtee.com, has some other good stuff, I particularly like this girls tee.

dutch tee: Happy circling biscuits

This tee from saltwatermonkey is called Unity. It looks like gingerbreadmen caught up in a manic midnight campfire dance following a session on the schnaaps. Either that or they have had some evil trick played on them by an 8 year old baker who left them joined at the single massive foot. Either way they look pretty happy with their lot.

happy.jpg

Salt water monkey is a nice site, with a rating area (also available in english, although I prefer life on the edge, surfing in a language I don’t understand sometimes). Found through a link from survivortee.com

new threadless: cow and chicken

Hurrah. Cow and Chicken. Chicken and Egg. Yet another joyful argument generator from Threadless. Confuse kids and stoners. Entertain creationists. Persuade the impressionable that some mad scientists in Texas have perfected the cow egg, which is going to be sold by the Sea Monkey people to let you raise and eat your own burger cow.

cow.gif

woot shirts - interesting behind the scenes

woot.jpg

Woot sell tshirts. And some of them have been pretty cool. Read an interesting photo heavy post featuring lots of printing gear, ink mixing, and boxes and boxes of shirts at the woot shirt blog here. Buy the latest woot shirt here. Vote, submit and generally do the design quality control for woot here, so they don’t have to!
